Hey Kids!
Firefighters do tons of different things for us... they put fires out, they protect us from fire and keep people safe, they teach us how to prevent fires and how to be prepared and know what to do in case there is a fire. They are mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers and friends... they're even heroes. (P.S. - A hero is someone that is brave or good.) Firefighters work very hard to keep people safe. Because they work so hard, it is important to let them know how much they mean to us.
Here are some ideas that you can do with your family and friends to say a great big THANK YOU to the firefighters in your community for all their hard work. Print out and color a special Sparky card to send to your firefighters. Or, create your own.
What you need to make your own card:
- crayons or markers
- piece of 8 1/2 x 11" paper
What to do:
- Fold the paper in half.
- Decorate the front of your card...what do you think of when you hear the word firefighter?
- Inside your card you can let them know what a great job they are doing or you can just say THANK YOU! (If you need help, ask a grown-up).
- Don't forget to sign your name.
- Here's where a grown-up comes in: Mail your card. Find out the address of your local fire department - stick your card in an envelope and mail it (don't forget to put a stamp on it!). Or have a grown-up take you to drop your card off at your local fire department. This way you might be able to say ‘hello' to a couple of firefighters while you're there.
