Cool to Do
Blowing in the Wind
Breeze into Spring with a Sparky the Fire Dog windsock. It's a fun art project that will keep you and your friends busy this month. Hang the windsock where it will catch a current of air every once in a while, but be sure to keep it away from open flames, heaters, and fireplaces.

Sparky Windsock
What you need: 2 pieces of 8 1/2" x 11" plain white paper, ruler, crayons, scissors, glue or tape, red and yellow crepe paper or construction paper, yarn

What to do
  1. Draw a picture of Sparky's face in the center of the first piece of paper. (See diagram #1.)
  2. Use the corner of the second piece of paper to form a triangle to make Sparky's hat. The sides should be 8 1/2" long and the bottom should be 12" across. Color the hat and be sure to include Sparky's name on it. Draw Sparky's ears in the remaining space. Remember: Sparky has five spots on each ear! (See diagram #2.)
  3. Cut out Sparky's hat and ears. Glue or tape the hat on the top of Sparky's head. Form Sparky's head, glue or tape it closed, and glue or tape on Sparky's ears.
  4. Glue or tape crepe paper or construction paper streamers to the bottom of the windsock.
  5. Make a hanger by punching a hole in each side of the hat and attaching a length of yarn.
