Hi Kids! It’s a
new year so that means it’s time for a new calendar.
Why not make your own?
What you need:
• Download a 2005 calendar (PDF)
•
8 1⁄2 x 11 Paper (24 pieces)
• Crayons or markers
• Scissors
• Hole puncher
• Yarn
What to do:
• Download the 2005 calendar (PDF)
•
You’ll need to do a picture for each month. Remember to make them colorful – you
do have to look at the picture all month long.
Here are the themes I came
up with:
January:
winter Scene
February: Valentine’s Day
March: wind, kite flying or a picture representing your region of the
country
April: showers
May: springtime/flowers
June: summer fun/celebration
July: patriotism
August: summer fun or your own idea
September: autumn/changing seasons
October: Halloween
November: Thanksgiving
December: Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa
• Punch two holes at the top of each month (try to do them all at once
so all the holes are in the same place).
• Punch two holes at the bottom of each picture (try to do them all at
once so all the holes are in the same place).
•
The holes on both your monthly picture pages and the monthly calendar need
to match up – take your yarn (or strong string) and tie the pictures
pages to the monthly calendar pages.
•
Don’t forget to add important dates -- like testing your smoke alarms
once a month, your mom’s birthday, groundhog
day…Sparky’s
birthday (March 18 – in case you were wondering), Fire Prevention
Week, which is October 9-15, 2005.
Sparky’s
friends at NFPA are having a calendar contest. If there is a picture
from your calendar that you want to send in to us have a grown-up
help you read the directions and fill out the entry form. I can’t
wait to see all your great pictures! Good luck.
I need the pictures by Feburary 18, 2005, so
get drawing. If you send in a picture make sure you mention that you
are a friend of Sparky's (wink, wink).
