Question:Why is your job special to you?
Signed Emma, Age 7.

Answer:
I love my job. I get to meet lots of people throughout the world and teach them how to be safe from fire. I’m also busy working on my Sparky web site creating fun things for kids to do, making safety games and answering questions about fire safety. When I’m not working I like to sniff around the backyard checking on the bones I’ve buried. Signed, SparkySparky's paw print

Question:
How do you drive a fire truck? Signed, Emily

Answer:
Driving a fire truck is a very important job. Some fire departments have their own training programs that every fire fighter who drives a fire truck must complete. Some fire departments use fire fighters who have a license to drive a regular large truck. A person who drives the fire truck must also know how to use the pump on the truck to get the water to the firefighters, how to raise the aerial ladder, and how to use other important tools on the fire truck. Signed, Sparky

Question: I want to know what the main job of a Dalmatian fire dog is. Can you tell me? Signed, Sally

Answer:  I’m a Dalmatian dog and my job is to teach everyone to be fire safe. I really don’t act like a dog – walking on two feet – but I sure do like to dig holes. Dalmatian dogs are well known at the fire house. Many years ago horses were used to pull the fire engine to the fire1q. Dalmatian dogs were friends of the horses and helped to keep them calm. When the fire alarm rang, the Dalmatian dog would lead the way to the fire. Many fire departments still have a Dalmatian dog as a mascot. I’m sure glad because I think we are the best dogs ever! Question:If there was a grease fire, would I put water on it? Signed, Brett

Answer: If there is a grease fire, I want you to get out of the house right away! If there is a fire or the smoke alarm sounds – get out and stay out. Let the fire department fight the fire. And, you never put water on a grease fire. Remember – get out and stay out – it’s the right thing to do. Signed, Sparky

Question:What would happen if you were alone and the window and door were on fire, everything in your room was on fire and there were smoke alarms going crazy and you caught on fire? Signed, Caeleigh, Australia

Answer:  That’s a big question. To make sure you know about a fire before it gets too big and blocks your doors and window, ask a grown-up to install smoke alarms in every bedroom, outside the sleeping area, and on every level of your home. Make sure the smoke alarms are interconnected so that when one alarm sounds, they all sound. That way, if there is a fire in your bedroom, all the smoke alarms in your home will sound giving you time to get out of the home. Remind grown-ups to test your smoke alarms once a month to make sure they are working. When the smoke alarm sounds, get out of the house right away before the fire gets bigger. Remember, when the smoke alarm sounds, get out and stay out.  Signed, Sparky

Question: I was wondering if you have been to middle school. Is it mean there because I am going there next year? Signed Katlyn

Answer:  I think school is the greatest. You get to learn new things every day. Going to middle school will be fun because you will make new friends. Do your homework and be friendly to everyone. Signed, Sparky
